Dr. Tho V. Le joins Purdue University faculty
Congratulations and best wishes to Dr. Tho V. Le on starting a new position as a tenure-track Assistant Professor of Industrial Engineering Technology in the School of Engineering Technology at Purdue University in August 2022.
Tho joined CLUE as a postdoctoral fellow in July 2021 after completing two years as a postdoctoral scholar at University of California, Davis. Prior to this, he obtained his PhD in Transportation and Infrastructure Systems Engineering and a second master’s degree in Industrial Engineering (Operations Research) from Purdue University. He obtained his first master’s degree in Transportation Engineering from Hiroshima University, Japan where he won the Best Master’s Thesis Award. He obtained his BSc in Transportation Engineering with summa cum laude honours from the University of Transport and Communications, Hanoi, Vietnam.
While at University of Toronto, Tho balanced three primary roles under the supervision of Professor Matt Roorda: 1) managing and reporting on research progress (e.g., 2022 Commercial Travel Survey); 2) facilitating research activities among the many partnerships, projects and research team members; and 3) managing and supporting graduate student researchers.
Tho’s research focuses on system-scale transportation modeling and analysis. This work uses a range of techniques from Statistics, Econometrics, Optimization, and AI/Machine Learning to model and provide quantitative analysis in order to guide industry planning and government decision-making. Current projects centre around technology-driven transportation services, with a focus on managing first-/last-mile logistics and on deploying emerging technologies for urban delivery.
Moving to the next chapter of my life, I am very excited to join Purdue and ready to educate many generations of students there. It is bittersweet to say goodbye to my colleagues at U of T who I really enjoyed working with.
