The Smart Freight Centre has recently completed the installation of Bosch camera equipment at the Purolator Urban Quick Stop on the University of Toronto St. George campus. These AI-enabled cameras track pedestrian, cyclist, and vehicle trajectories without storing video data, which addresses privacy concerns often raised about camera recordings of public spaces. The new camera equipment will allow Smart Freight Centre researchers to examine conflicts between road users (pedestrians, cyclists, and vehicles) and e-cargo cycle loading operations. State-of-the-art econometric and machine learning models are now being developed to quantify these conflicts and develop solutions for urban curbside loading zones that minimize impacts on road safety.
